Portuguese two-wheel sector growing 38%

The 2022 figures show a growth of 38 percent until last July, for the two-wheel and soft mobility Portuguese sector. This figures are known, when Eurostat confirms that Portugal remains the largest bike producer in Europe, for the third consecutive year. The figures held by ABIMOTA, indicated a growth in exports, as well as an exponential growth, in terms of added value, both in traditional bicycles and e-bikes. Until last July the increase was 38 percent. “The figures provided by Eurostat confirmed ours, which indicated that Portugal continued, and continues, to grow significantly in bicycle exports. In 2021, we exported two million and 900 thousand bicycles, which keeps us in the lead, for the third consecutive year .” Declared the Secretary General of ABIMOTA, Gil Nadais. “These figures are the result of all the work that has been done, in terms of production effort, but also, and fundamentally, in terms of growth in the scale of value in bike production. This fact is remarkable in production and exports of e-bikes, which grew by more than 60%. We cannot fail to mention that in components, especially in the group of pedals and cranksets, as well as in bicycle frames, growth was over 70%. As we opportunely announced, May had been the best month ever, but July surpassed all values, reaching almost one hundred million euros in terms of exports.” Finished off the leader of the association that governs the industrial two wheels sector in Portugal.
